How Much Product Do I Need?

How Much Product Will I Need?

Below are general usage estimates based on average gelcoat boats with moderate oxidation and standard maintenance. Actual usage depends on how heavily you apply product and how oxidized the surface is. When in doubt, order slightly more so you don’t run short mid-detail.

Wash & Wax Boat Soap

16 oz Bottle (average use = 3 generous squeezes per wash)

  • 20–25 ft boat: Approximately 8+ washes
  • 30–40 ft boat: Approximately 7–8 washes
  • 50+ ft boat: Approximately 5–7 washes

If you wash regularly, a gallon is more cost-effective and ideal for larger boats or frequent use.

Intense Clean • Mold & Mildew Clean • Vinyl Guard

These products go a long way and depend on how much surface area needs attention.

16 oz Bottle

  • 5–8 full cleanings

If your boat has heavy staining or you’re restoring neglected surfaces, expect higher usage and get gallons.

Ceramic Spray

Ceramic Spray is extremely efficient and spreads thin.

16 oz Bottle

  • 20–25 ft boat: 3–4 full inside and outside applications
  • 30–40 ft boat: 2 full applications
  • 50+ ft boat: 1 full application

For boats 35 ft and up, Gallon is typically recommended for full coverage with extra on hand.

Heavy Cut Compound

Heavy Cut usage depends entirely on oxidation level. Severe oxidation will require more product.

32 oz Bottle

  • 20–25 ft boat: Plan on 1–2 bottles for full topsides and hull sides
  • 30–40 ft boat: Plan on 3+ bottles
  • 50+ ft boat: Gallon recommended

Heavier oxidation always increases usage.

Medium Cut Compound

32 oz Bottle

  • 20–25 ft boat: 1 bottle typically covers full topsides and hull
  • 30–40 ft boat: 1–2 bottles
  • 50+ ft boat: 1 gallon recommended

Polish & Protect (1-Step Correction)

32 oz Bottle

  • 20–25 ft boat: 1 bottle is typically sufficient
  • 30–40 ft boat: 2-3 bottles
  • 50+ ft boat: Gallon recommended

Premium Boat Wax

Premium Boat Wax spreads thin and lasts multiple applications.

16 oz Bottle

  • 20–25 ft boat: Approximately 5–8 full wax applications
  • 30–40 ft boat: Approximately 3–5 applications
  • 50+ ft boat: 1-2 applications

For boats over 35 ft or regular maintenance, go with a gallon.

General Recommendation

  • Boats under 30 ft: 16 oz and 32 oz sizes are typically sufficient.
  • 30+ ft Gallons are the safest and most cost-effective option.

What Products Do I Need To Remove Oxidation?

What Products Do I Need to Remove Oxidation?

Removing oxidation requires a proper correction system. The level of oxidation determines how aggressive you need to start, but the process always follows the same order:

Step 1: Heavy Cut Compound

If the surface is chalky, faded, dull, or heavily oxidized, start with Heavy Cut Compound.

This levels the damaged gelcoat and removes deep oxidation, restoring clarity and color. Heavier oxidation will require more time and product.

Step 2: Polish & Protect

After compounding, follow with Polish & Protect.

This refines the surface, removes light swirls or haze left behind from compounding, boosts gloss, and lays down a protective layer that resists salt and UV.

For light to moderate oxidation, many boats can skip heavy cut and go straight to Polish & Protect.

Step 3: Premium Boat Wax

Once correction is complete, lock everything in with Premium Boat Wax.

This seals the surface, enhances gloss even further, and provides months of UV and saltwater protection.

Want the Complete System?

Our Buff & Shine Kit includes the core products needed to properly remove oxidation and restore gloss the right way.

If your boat is faded, dull, or heavily chalked, the kit is the most efficient and cost-effective way to get everything you need in one package.
